This website is run by West Berkshire Council. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

How accessible this website is
We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible. These are listed below and you can see a more detailed list of these issues in the non-accessible section of this statement.
- • Some of our older PDF and Word documents are not fully accessible.
- • Some of our pages use YouTube videos which are not fully accessible.
- • Our carousels cannot be navigated using a keybaord.
- • We use a third party website for all our event bookings. While this is not currently fully accessible, steps are currently being made to unsure these issues are resolved.

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.
Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations
Global Main Menus Issues on www.westberkshireheritage.org
- • While effort has been made to ensure the main menus are accessible when using the ‘Tab’ key on your keyboard, there is no mechanism to disable this aside from user the mouse.
- • This fails WCAG 1.4.13 Content on Hover or Focus.
- • This issue is expected to be resolved through a new website project scheduled to be complete by September 2026.
What’s On page issues (https://booking.westberks.gov.uk/heritage_events.html)
- • There is no keyboard function when selecting the ‘Got it!’ button within the cookie banner. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.1.1.
- • The shopping icon at the top of the webpage is not accessible using the keyboard. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.1.1.
- • The ‘Filter by’, ‘Location’ and ‘Heritage’ options are not accessible using the keyboard. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.1.1.
- • The keyboard focus is not visible on the links ‘Download our Spring/Summer brochure’, ‘View our current exhibitions’ and ‘Sign up for more event info’. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.4.7.
- • There are multiple elements across the webpage that do not have sufficient colour contrast. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.4.3.
- • Zooming and scaling is not yet enabled. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.4.4.
- • Accessible names need to be improved to the page number pagination at the bottom of the webpage. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 4.1.2.
The above issues reside on our booking website, and the booking website is due for an upgrade, which will include the list of improvements set out above. The upgrade will be in place by December 2025.
Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations
PDFs and other documents
The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.
Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.
Live video
We do not plan to add captions to live video streams because live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations.
What we’re doing to improve accessibility
Our efforts to ensure full accessibility is ongoing.
We continue to work with suppliers to resolve any identified accessibility issues where we do not have direct control over their product.
Preparation of this accessibility statement
This statement was prepared on 22/08/2025. it was last reviewed on 12/10/2025.
The test was carried out by West Berkshire Council. The most viewed pages were tested using automated testing tools by our website team. A further audit of the website was carried out to the WCAG 2.2 AA standard.
This website is regularly tested internally using multiple browsers/devices and Axe Dev Tools.
