Shaw House School Open Weekend06 May 11:00
Commemorating 75 years since Shaw House became a school.
Join us for a very special weekend where you will have the opportunity to access all area of the House which are not normally open to the public, from the ‘forbidden corridor’ on the second floor; the back stairs which was once only allowed to be used by the boys; to the basement.
Visit the new exhibition ‘Shaw House – The School Years’ curated by West Berkshire Museum which will look at the history of the school from May 1943, when the House became temporary school accommodation after the bombing of Newbury, right through to 1985 when the building was vacated due to structural concerns. The exhibition will give a fascinating insight to the changes in teaching, curriculum and fashion!
Please bring along your Shaw House School photos and memories to share with the class!
Opening weekend: Sunday 6 & Monday 7 May. (You can visit the exhibition at any time during normal public open hours.)
Venue: Shaw House
