Talk: From Villa to Village

19 September 19:00

The role of voluntary archaeology in uncovering Roman, Saxon and Medieval Berkshire

Some Timed to accompany an exhibition on 60 years of work by the Berkshire Archaeology Research Group, this talk by Steve Clark will explore how voluntary archaeology projects have often been at the forefront of expanding our knowledge of Berkshire from the Roman to the medieval period.

These centuries saw tumultuous changes to the pattern of local settlement and the exploitation of the landscape. The results from a variety of sites in West Berkshire and beyond will be used to explore what we can reconstruct of these periods and to show how voluntary projects can be best placed to uncover the story.
