Special Exhibition: Boxford Masques01 November 10:00
The Boxford Masques is a large scale community theatre performance held in the grounds of Welford Park, the next show will be in late July 2017. The Masques were originally staged before the First World War and were revived by the Watermill Theatre in 2000, with new scripts created by local author Geraldine MacCaughrean. Now an independent charity the Masques have become a regular and popular feature of West Berkshire summer life.
This special exhibition celebrates The Boxford Masque tradition, tracing the fascinating history of this renowned drama group which can trace its roots back over a 100 years.
FREE ‘Performing in the Boxford Masques’ workshop
West Berkshire Museum, Saturday 4th March, 2 – 4pm
The performance workshop will be a fun introduction to some of the acting techniques and skills that a potential community performer would need in the Masques, aimed at actors of any experience or none at all, of any age (you don’t have to admit to) over 18, and designed to give a non- threatening glimpse of what being an actor in the Masques in 2017 might involve. The workshop will be led by regular Masques Director Ade Morris.
This is a free workshop and places are limited. Please book your place in advance by calling 01635 519562, email firstname.lastname@example.org or pop into the museum.
Runs until 24 April 2017
Our second floor galleries host a series of special exhibitions, along with Gallery 5 which can be hired to display original artwork, sculpture and crafts.
Entry to the museum is free, but donations are most welcomed.
